Meadow Creek Project: Custom Home and Equestrian Arena Project by Omnibuild General Contractors

Tour of Meadow Creek Farm: A Custom-Built Home and Equestrian Facility in Virginia

Omnibuild General Contractors has recently completed a breathtaking custom build in Southwest Virginia: Meadow Creek Farm. The owners, looking to transition from busy city life and pursue their passion of raising Rocky Mountain horses, enlisted the help of our team to create their dream home. The result is a stunning mountain modern farm house that overlooks the property with views of the barn, a duck pond and pastures beyond.

From the very beginning, we knew that the heart of this farm was the horses. We carefully planned the site, taking into account vehicle service access, farm roads and riding trails, parking, and dry lot. Ultimately, in collaboration with the Architects and Design team we chose a site that would capture the beauty of the barn and horse pastures, with the house sitting atop a small hill above a rolling lawn, a small duck pond, and the beautiful stables and arena.

The design of Meadow Creek Farm was inspired by a desire to create a modern mountain home that used timber framing, stone and natural wood tones to blend into its surroundings. At the main entry, a transparent vestibule offers a clear view through the foyer and to the pasture beyond. To the right of the main entry is a unique custom metal screen that plays with light and shadows, backlit at night to show off the detailed leaf vein pattern. This venation pattern was designed to reflect the connection the owners have to the land, their horses and to each other.

Beyond the screen is an all-season porch with retractable glass walls, affectionately dubbed the "Sunday Room" by the owners. The walls can be opened on either side to allow cool breezes in the summer, or shut in the winter months to enjoy a lit fire. The spacious garage, just off the main entry, has room for both cars and farm vehicles to park, with a direct path into a mudroom that connects to the owner's bedroom suite via a walk-through closet.

The owner's suite itself is a serene refuge, with a reading nook at a large window overlooking the pastures, a custom tree bark wall behind the bed, and distinct lighting to give contrast to the smooth oak paneled walls of the room.

Across the main entry is the heart of the home: "The Pavilion". This great room boasts tall ceilings and expansive views to the barn and the woods beyond, with a kitchen island featuring a custom hammered copper sink and a bank of cabinets separating the sitting area. The dining table niche is tucked away under a dropped paneled ceiling to offer a more intimate experience for formal dining, while the pantry, hidden behind the kitchen, offers added storage and features a bar with custom beer taps.

At the center of the home is a large staircase detailed to invoke the stirrups of a riding saddle and the leather of a bridle, inviting visitors up to two guest suites. The exterior spaces of the home are just as inviting, with multiple patios and terraces offering stunning views and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

But at the heart of Meadow Creek Farm is the private equestrian facility on 90 acres of mountainous Virginia land. With 8 stalls, a 100’x200’ indoor arena with an observation lounge, vet and farrier areas, this facility is designed to perfectly suit the needs of the owners' Rocky Mountain horses.

Meadow Creek Farm truly embodies the personalities and pursuits of the owners, and we are proud to have been a part of bringing their dream to life.
